SAN MATEO, Calif., September 10, 2014 – Norse, the leader in live attack intelligence, today announced that Brian Contos has joined the company as a senior vice president and chief security strategist.  In this new position, Brian will help guide the company’s market strategy, technical solutions and field engineering.

“The traditional strategies and technologies that used to keep us secure have stopped working as advanced cyber threats have evolved, creating the need for a live intelligence-based approach to security that can rapidly detect advanced malware and breaches and improve the incident response process,” said Contos. “Together with the superb team of Norse technical account managers and solutions architects, I look forward to working with our customers to help develop threat intelligence strategies that mitigate cyber threats while improving operational efficiencies and security ROI.”

Before joining Norse, Brian was vice president of threat intelligence and security strategy for Blue Coat Systems. Prior to that, he held key positions at McAfee, Imperva, ArcSight, Riptech, Bell Labs and the Defense Information Systems Agency. Brian is a published author and proven business leader, a Distinguished Fellow with the Ponemon Institute and a blogger for CSO Magazine.  He has worked as a security expert with Global 2000 enterprises and government organizations in more than 50 countries across six continents.  His most recent book, “Physical and Logical Security Convergence,” was co-authored with former NSA deputy director William Crowell.  He has written for and been interviewed by industry and business press such as CBS News, Bloomberg, Forbes, The New York Times, USA Today and The Times of London.  Brian is regularly invited to present at leading security and industry events worldwide such as RSA Conference, Interop, OWASP, SANS, CSI, SecTor, GovWare, GFIRST, E-Crime Congress, Infosecurity Europe and many others. He is a graduate of the University of Arizona with a B.S.B.A specializing in Management Information Systems.

“Brian has an incredible background, having helped build some of the most successful and disruptive security companies in the world,” said Norse CEO Sam Glines.  “He is a superb individual, a dynamic security expert who understands customer pain points, and we are excited to have him join Norse.”
